Your first steps, in five

The Overview walks you through five steps, from the identity check to sharing your page. What each step asks, and when it counts as done.

2 minute read

After you sign in, the Overview of your passport shows Your journey: five steps, with the one to do now marked Now. Each step has a button that opens the right page.

1. Verify identity

About three minutes with your ID document and a phone with a camera. The check creates your passport and its address, which comes from your name.

It comes first because everything else hangs on it. Until it passes, contact details, personal details, work and education, who can read your passport and its address stay closed.

It is included in your passport year (€9.90 a year), or paid for by an employer or a university that invites you. Read the identity check.

2. Your profile

What a reader looks for first. The step lists what is still missing:

  • a profile picture on your page, matched to your ID
  • an e-mail address and a mobile number
  • a headline under your name
  • at least one language
  • your nationality

Your nationality is never on your public page. It opens only for a company you choose to show it to.

3. Add work and education

Where you worked and studied, in your own words. Every line starts as Claimed.

Employers look at the last five years first, so this step is done when all five years are accounted for: every job and course, and any time out as a career break. Read adding your records and the last five years, or start from a file with the CV import.

4. Get it confirmed

certo asks each employer and school to confirm what you wrote. Their answer shows on the line, and so does silence.

This step is done when every job, course and certification on your passport is confirmed, or somebody has been asked about it. Read asking someone to confirm a record.

5. Share

Three things, on the Overview and Share & Access:

  • make your passport public
  • share it on a social network
  • make a short video of it

Read who can see your passport.

Needs you

Above the journey, Needs you shows one thing at a time that only you can do: an employer asking to read your passport, an invitation to answer, or a record whose request ended without a confirmation. Companies come first.

The steps are a guide, not a gate. Once the identity check has passed, you can open any page in any order.
