Adding your work, education and certifications

Every job, course and certificate is its own line, in your own words, marked Claimed until somebody who was there confirms it.

3 minute read

Your records live on Work & education. Each one is a line on your passport. Whatever you add starts as Claimed: your own word, clearly marked, until the organisation that was there confirms it.

Have a CV or a LinkedIn profile? Import it and pick the lines to keep. Imported lines work exactly like typed ones.

Add a record

Choose Add a record, then the kind:

KindCan somebody confirm it?
EmploymentYes, the employer
EducationYes, the school or university
CertificationYes, the body that awarded it
Volunteering, Project, AwardNo: always Claimed
Career breakNo: always Claimed. See the last five years

Fill in the company or institution, the title and the dates. Leave To empty while you still work or study there. Set the Country: certo asks the company's contact in that country first.

Under More you find the rest: what you achieved, a grade, files, a link, skills and tools, and who sees the line.

What stays your own word

Some parts of a record are never put to anyone, so they stay Claimed even on a confirmed line:

  • Your own description of the job.
  • What you achieved. Whoever confirms the job confirms the dates and the title, never these.
  • This was an internship. Tick it under the title and the line shows a quiet Internship chip. It is yours to say; your supervisor can still confirm the job itself.

Does the company still exist?

Under the company you can say Still operational, No longer exists or Not sure, and the year it closed. Merged into another company? Pick that one as the employer instead: its HR may hold your records. If nobody is left to ask, read a company that no longer exists.

Who sees each line

Who sees it is set per record: Anyone with your page, or Only companies I approve. A record's files follow it.

Files

You can attach a PDF or an image to a certification or an education record, for example the certificate or a diploma. Files are private: only readers you approve can open them, and each opening is logged.

A file is never proof of a fact. It shows only that you uploaded it, and a reader sees it marked as added by you. Jobs take no files: the proof of a job is the employer's answer. Once a record is confirmed it takes no new files, because a file added later would look checked.

Editing and removing

You can edit a record until somebody is asked to confirm it. After that it is locked: to change it, remove it and add it again.

Remove from your passport takes a line off your public page and every approved company's view. An open request about it is withdrawn, and a late answer is not recorded. A certificate already issued for it keeps verifying: removing the line does not revoke it. The organisation that confirmed it can revoke it, and you are e-mailed its reason if it does. If an employer sponsored your verification, it keeps seeing the line, marked removed, until its locked period ends.

The identity check is the one record you cannot remove. It goes only with your account.

The rest of your passport

  • Personal details: your summary, skills, languages, where you live, your right to work and your nationality. All Claimed.
  • Roles: group jobs that belong together into one line of work, such as Data analyst. A role is Claimed. The role interview that can confirm one is coming soon.
