For candidates

An employer invited you to verify your career. Here is how it works.

The employer asks you to check your identity and your career history with certo. When the invitation says it is free for you, the employer pays for all of it. What you get is yours to keep: a certo passport, the next-generation CV.

  • Free when the employer pays
  • Verify once, share many times
  • Nothing shared without your yes

What happens, step by step

  1. Open the link and create your accountSign in, or create an account with your e-mail address and the code we send to it.
  2. Check your identityA photo of your ID and a selfie, on an identity provider’s page. It takes a few minutes. certo receives the result, never the pictures.
  3. Answer the invitationRead what the employer asks to see, then accept or decline. Nothing is shared before you accept.
  4. Add your jobs and educationType them in, or start from your CV: certo reads it once and keeps no copy.
  5. certo asks the organisations that were thereFor each line you name a contact, such as HR or a records office, and certo writes to them. Before the first request you confirm your mobile number with a text message.
  6. See what they confirmed, then share itEach line shows Verified, Partly verified or Claimed, and who confirmed it. Then share your passport with anyone you choose.
The invitation, as you will see it

Halden Freight invites you to verify yourself, with your passport free for a year

“We would like to check your record before the offer stage.”

  • Halden Freight pays for your identity check and the confirmation of your work and education, and your passport is free for a year.
  • If you accept, Halden Freight reads your employment and education, records you add later included. You can withdraw it after 12 months; an erasure request to certo ends it at any time.
  • Other employers you approve read your passport as they would any other: for a verification of their own.
  • You can decline, but Halden Freight will see that, and it may affect your application. If you do not answer, the invitation expires and Halden Freight sees that it expired. Nothing about you is released either way.

Halden Freight will also see whether you are over 18 and over 21, checked against your ID. Never your date of birth.

Accept these termsDeclineOpen until 12 December 2026.

Verify once, use it many times

  1. 01The passport is yoursEverything checked goes on your own certo passport, not into the employer’s files. It stays with you when you move on.
  2. 02Share it with any employerShow the same passport to the next employer. What was confirmed stays confirmed, so you do not have to prove it all again.
  3. 03Free for a yearWhen the employer pays, your passport is free for a year from the day you accept, and records you add in that year are checked free too.

What the employer sees if you say yes

The invitation states its terms before you answer. These are the terms when the employer pays.

WhatWhat the employer gets
What it asked forYour passport as far as it asked, for example your employment and education, with who confirmed each line. Records you add later are included.
For how longFrom your yes. You cannot withdraw it for the first 12 months; after that you can withdraw it whenever you like.
Your contact detailsOnly if the invitation asks for them. You see that before you accept.
Your date of birthOnly if it asks, gives its reason, and you tick a separate box. Otherwise it sees only whether you are over 18 and over 21.
Anybody elseNothing, until you share your passport yourself.
Other employersOnly the ones you approve, each under its own access. The invitation does not pay for them, and they cost you nothing.

If you say no, or do nothing

  • You declineThat is your choice, and nothing about you is shared. The employer sees only that the invitation was declined, and that may affect your application.
  • You ignore itNothing about you is shared. The invitation expires after 60 days, and the employer sees only that it expired, which may affect your application too.
  • Your addresscerto deletes your e-mail address from the invitation 90 days after it ends, whatever your answer.

Your data

  • No pictures of your IDThe identity provider runs the check. certo keeps the result, your name and your date of birth (encrypted), never images of your document or your face.
  • Every opening is loggedEach time an employer opens your private details it is written down, and you see which organisation opened what.
  • Download it allDownload everything certo holds about you as one zip file, whenever you like.
  • Erase it allErasing your account ends every employer’s access, the inviting employer’s too, even inside the 12 months.

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes, when the invitation says it is free for you: the employer pays for your identity check and the confirmations, and your passport is free for a year. An invitation that does not say so is a request to read: you choose what the employer sees and can withdraw it at any time, and a passport of your own is €9.90 a year.

What happens after the year?

Your passport stays live, and everything confirmed stays confirmed. To have new records checked after that, you take your own passport for €9.90 a year.

Can I share my passport with other employers?

Yes. Publish it and send its address, or approve an employer that asks to read it. An employer you approve sees what was confirmed and who confirmed it, so nothing has to be proved again.

What if a past employer does not answer?

certo reminds them. If they still do not answer, the line stays Claimed and says “no reply”. It is never shown as confirmed, and never as a refusal either. You can name another contact and certo asks again.

Can I remove something?

Yes, any record except the identity check. It leaves your passport and every reader’s view, with one exception: the employer that invited you keeps a line it could already read, marked as removed by you, until its 12 months are over.
