A profile is only worth reading if you can tell what was checked, who checked it and what they actually confirmed. Every line on a certo profile carries that. Where a check did not come back, the line says so instead of quietly disappearing.
One person, one profile.
A government identity document is validated against a live selfie taken at the same moment. The check is performed by Innovatrics, a specialist identity bureau, not by certo itself. The name on the profile is the name on the document, and a verified person can hold exactly one certo profile, so a record cannot be duplicated, resold or handed to someone else.

The candidate supplies business email addresses for managers or HR contacts at current and previous employers. Someone on the verification team contacts them directly and confirms two things: how long the candidate worked there, and the position they held.

The candidate supplies a contact at the university or college. The verification team confirms the award, the subject and the year of graduation against the institution’s student records. Where an institution will not confirm, or the entry has no award to confirm, it stays marked as stated.

Industry-specific certificates can be uploaded to a profile. Where the issuing body exposes an API, certo checks the credential ID against it and the entry is marked verified. Where it does not, the document sits on file and the entry stays marked as stated, naming the reason.
