Creating your account and signing in

Your account is your e-mail address. You sign in with a code we e-mail you, or with an account you connected. There is no password.

2 minute read

A certo account is one e-mail address and one person. You never choose a password: every sign-in is a six-digit code we e-mail you, or an account you connected yourself.

Create your account

  1. Open certo.bio/sign-up and keep I want my passport picked.
  2. Type your e-mail and choose Create my passport.
  3. We e-mail you a six-digit code. Enter it, and your account exists.

Creating an account publishes nothing. Your passport starts private and stays private until you choose who can see it.

Invited by a company? Open the link in your invitation instead. The code goes to the address the invitation came to: if you already hold a passport, it answers the invitation, and if not, it creates your account. What an invitation means for you.

One address, one account

  • One account holds one passport, and one person holds one account.
  • Use your plain address. certo does not accept a "+" or other special characters before the @: only letters, digits, dots, hyphens and underscores.
  • Capitals make no difference. If an address already has an account, sign in with it instead of creating a second one.

Signing in with a code

On certo.bio/sign-in, type your address and choose E-mail me a sign-in code. Then enter the code from the e-mail.

  • Paste the code whole. A code works once.
  • If you ask for a new code, only the newest one works.
  • No e-mail? Check your spam folder, then choose Send me a new code.

Keep your codes to yourself: anyone who has one can act as you.

Signing in with a connected account

The sign-in page may also offer buttons such as Continue with LinkedIn or Continue with GitHub. The ones you see depend on what certo has switched on.

Once your passport is open, you can connect an account under Accounts on Contact details: you sign in with it once, and certo records on your contact details that the account is yours. From then on you can also sign in to certo with it.

To stop signing in with one, go to Account, then Connected accounts, and choose Disconnect. A link it already verified stays verified, with its date. Your only way to sign in cannot be disconnected.

There is no password anywhere in certo: nothing to set, nothing to forget, nothing for anyone to guess.

Signing out

Sign out ends the session in the browser you are using. Lost a phone or a laptop? On Account, choose Sign out everywhere to sign out of every browser at once.
