Using a company verification on your own passport
Owners and admins can spend one of the company's verifications to verify their own passport. The company gets no access to it.
2 minute read
If you run a company on certo, you may want a verified passport of your own. An owner or an admin can pay for it with one of the company's verifications, in a couple of clicks, without the company reading anything.
Who can use it
- Owners and admins of the company. Not recruiters or issuers.
- Only for a company certo is not still checking.
- Only on your own passport. If you do not have one yet, using the verification creates it first, private and empty, as the start of any passport.
How to use it
The offer appears in your own console, on the Overview while the identity check is your next step, and on Account under your subscription when you have no paid year or it has ended. It reads, for example:
Verify your passport with one of Northwind Ltd's verifications · 12 left
- Press Use a verification. If you belong to more than one company with verifications, choose Whose verification to use.
- Confirm. The dialog says "This uses 1 of Northwind Ltd's 12 verifications. Northwind Ltd does not get access to your passport."
- Press Start the identity check.
What you get
What a sponsored invitation gives a candidate, for yourself:
- Your identity check, paid.
- Verification of your work and education for 12 months.
Your Account then reads "Verified through Northwind Ltd, your own company", with the end date.
It does not include free reading for other employers or downloading your passport as a CV. Those come with a passport you pay for yourself, at €9.90 a year.
What the company gets
Nothing. No access to your passport, no row on the Candidates list, no e-mail. The passport stays yours: you decide who reads it, exactly as any candidate does.
The company's verification history records the spend. Owners and admins read "Used for" followed by your sign-in address; everybody else reads "Used for a member's own passport".
Using it again
Each use spends one verification. If your year is still running, a new one starts when the current one ends, so a verification never pays for time already paid for.
If you paid certo's old one-time fee, your verification is already included for good, and the verification is not needed.
Not the same as inviting yourself
You could also send an invitation to your own address from Candidates. That spends a verification too, but on acceptance it gives your company access to your passport that you cannot withdraw for the first 12 months. Using a verification on your own passport avoids exactly that, so it is usually what you want.
