Creating your company account

Sign up as an employer with your work address, set up your company or join the one already on certo, and what happens when certo checks it first.

3 minute read

One person has one certo account. Your company sits beside it: you can hire for a company and hold your own passport with the same sign-in, and add either one later.

Sign up as an employer

  1. Open certo.bio/sign-up.
  2. Under Signing up for an organisation?, pick Employer or recruiter.
  3. Enter Your work e-mail and the Company name, then press Continue to your company.
  4. We e-mail you a six-digit code. Enter it and you are signed in. There is no password.

Use your work address. Its domain is what links you to your company, so anna@northwind.example tells certo you work at Northwind Ltd in a way a personal address cannot.

Already have a passport? Sign in as usual and pick Add a company in the menu. It opens the same company step.

The company step

Next, certo shows you what it will do before it writes anything. It looks your company up in its directory and checks your address against the company's domain.

A company is never copied. If it is already on certo, you join it, so your team works from one list and one verification balance.

When certo checks first

certo checks a sign-up by hand when your address cannot prove the company on its own. The most common reasons:

  • A personal address. A personal address can hold a passport, but a company account needs an address on the company's domain.
  • An address on another domain than the company's website.
  • A name another organisation on certo already has.

A person at certo looks at it, usually within a working day, and you get an e-mail either way. If certo declines, the e-mail gives the reason. Until it is approved, the company waits and nothing is done in its name. If you have an address on the company's own domain, signing up with it avoids the wait.

Joining a company already on certo

When you ask to join, the company's owners get an e-mail. They answer on Company profile, under Asking to join, where they also see whether your address is on the company's domain. Once one of them lets you in, the company appears in your menu, next to your passport. If they decline, you are told no, and nothing else.

You can also skip this step entirely: a colleague who is already an owner or admin can invite you directly. See Inviting colleagues and their roles.

What you can do straight away

Once the company is yours, the console opens on Candidates. From there you can:

  • Buy verifications. One verification sponsors one candidate or opens one passport. See Verifications and what they cost.
  • Ask to read, or invite. Ask a candidate to open their passport, or invite them to verify themselves.
  • Add your team. Invite recruiters by e-mail. They join with their own account.

Before your first invitation or ask, complete the company profile. Candidates see your logo, name and description before they decide, so certo waits for them. See Completing your company profile.

Confirming the records of your own former staff (issuing) is a separate step that needs an issuer agreement with certo. You ask for one from Company profile.
