How learners claim a certificate
Learners claim with a code sent to the address you used, for free. What they get, what they see, and how you follow who has claimed.
3 minute read
When you issue a batch, each learner gets an e-mail: Claim your certificate. It names the certificate and your organisation, and has one button. Claiming is free for the learner, and it needs no identity document.
The claim, step by step
- The learner opens the link in the e-mail.
- They choose Send me a code. certo e-mails a six-digit code to the address the certificate was issued to. The code works for 15 minutes.
- They enter the code. The certificate is theirs, on a passport of their own.
The code always goes to the address on your row, never to an address the learner types. So a forwarded e-mail alone claims nothing: only the person who reads that mailbox can claim the certificate.
Use the address the learner will actually read. If the address is wrong, they cannot claim the certificate.
What the learner gets
A free passport at their own address on certo, with your certificate on it, marked Verified. They can publish the passport and share the certificate with anyone.
Their identity reads Identity not verified until they check it. The certificate is theirs either way.
The free passport holds the certificates issued to them. To add their jobs and education and have them confirmed, or to check their identity, the learner takes the full passport for €9.90 a year. That is their choice, and you are never charged for it. What a certo passport is explains the passport from the learner's side.
A learner who already has a passport
A batch always makes a new passport, because certo cannot know who already holds one. A learner who does claims your certificate the same way, with the code. They are then told that certo will add the certificate to the passport they already hold after a quick check, and they get an e-mail when it is done.
The certificate keeps the name you issued it under. You see the invitation as Claimed, and you never learn which passport it went to. If certo cannot add it, the invitation reads Withdrawn.
Following who has claimed
The Invitations list on your Issuing page shows every learner you have issued to:
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Not claimed yet | The e-mail went out and the learner has not claimed. |
| Claimed | The certificate is on the learner's passport. |
| Expired, not claimed | The learner did not claim it within 90 days. |
| Withdrawn | The claim was closed, for example because certo could not add the certificate to a passport the learner already holds. |
You see whether a certificate was claimed. You do not get access to the learner's passport by issuing to them.
If a learner cannot find the e-mail
Ask them to check spam and any filters for mail from certo.bio.
The link expired. Send the same row again. It shows New link sent, and the learner gets a new link for another 90 days.
The address was wrong. Correct it on the row and send the row again. The new link goes to the corrected address and the old one stops working.
If the e-mail never arrived and neither helps, write to us at support@certo.bio with the learner's address and the certificate.
